Your pet will love to curl up in this basket! It's a comfy basket that's approximately 30 cm in diameter and highly suitable for your cat or small dog. You can even add rows to the pattern to make the diameter bigger.
The pattern is suitable for the novice or an experienced crafter. The super fun project can also be used for group activities or fund-raising projects.
Estimated time of accomplishment: 2 hours.
•10 mm crochet hook.
• 500gr T-Shirt yarn.
That is around the size of two oranges. You can make your yarn by recycling any fabric you have. Cut the fabric into strips and tie them together.
• Stitch Markers
These are small hooks to mark the beginning of rows. You can substitute this with a paper clip or a hairpin.
sl: slip stitch
ch: chain stitch
sc: single crochet stitch
To Make The Base
Make a slip stitch and 3 chain stitches.
Connect the third chain and slip-stitch with a chain stitch.
This is important: We will continue and finish the base by inserting our crochet hook IN BETWEEN the two wings of our next stitch.
2nd row: 2 sc in each stitch. That will be 6 sc.
At the end of each row, put the stitch marker on the first stitch of the new row to mark the beginning of the row; otherwise, you will lose where the beginning of the next row is.
3rd row: 2 sc in each stitch. That will be 12 single crochets.
4th row: 2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc in next stitch. Repeat pattern till the end of the row.
5th row: 2 sc in each stitch.
6th row: 2 sc, then 2 times 1 sc in each stitch.
7th row: 2 sc in each stitch. Take the stitch maker off.
The Wall Of The Basket
Insert your hook under BOTH wings of the next stitch throughout the end. There is no need for a stitch marker on the wall.
Keep crocheting in a spiral, making a single crochet in each stitch for a minimum of 6 rounds. Keep going as much as you like to make the wall around the basket higher.
Once you are finished with the wall, cut the end of the yarn (leave a tail of about the length of your crochet hook). Make a double knot around the stitch you are in to close the work. Cut off the remaining tail.
Roll the wall inwards to make a roll around the base. Your pet will love to put her chin on the roll!
You can use multiple coloured yarns for a bright or vivid effect. To do this, simply tie the different yarns together as you crochet along.
You can wash your basket in the machine washer.
Have fun crocheting!
