Bearded dragons or other pet lizards can become tiny terrors for the night in a Skeleton costume. Movie buffs will love the Darth Vader, Star Wars, and Batman looks – or opt for a classic Lion Mane headpiece.

For comic book fans, pets can dress up as Spiderman, Superman or even Wonder Woman. Those more inspired by modern heroes. For a cute and classic Halloween look, there's always the chance to transform your furry companion into a Cowboy, Bumblebee or even a Banana or Hotdog.

Stress-Free Halloween Costume Tips

After finding the perfect costume, here are some tips on how to ensure your pet is comfortable while dressing up and able to celebrate stress-free. Here are five ways to keep him out of harm's way:

* PLAYING DRESS-UP
Not all pets like wearing clothes and some may become stressed or agitated while wearing a costume. The idea is to take baby steps. Start with trying on a simple accessory, like a bandana. Then let him walk around with it for a few minutes.

Ensure the costume worn is secure, comfortable and lightweight, and doesn't restrict your pet's movements. Pets do an excellent job communicating through body language and letting you know if they're uncomfortable. Also keep a look out for any loose pieces that can be easily chewed off.

Many pets just need a little coaxing and positive reinforcement. Once you're able to dress your pet in a costume, it's important that it not limit movement, allowing your pet to move around and see without difficulty.

Reward with something tasty. After you put the apparel or costume on your pet, reward him with a treat so he associates the costume with getting a snack.

* CONSIDER THE WEATHER
Pets can overheat easily, so ensure their clothing is not too bulky or heavy if the weather is warm. Watch for elastic features around the paw area and be certain there is enough room around the widest area of the chest. If a pet can easily trip over the legs, it's best to look for another costume altogether.

* KEEPING AN EYE OUT
When you open your doors to trick-or-treaters or hold a house party, always remember to keep a close watch on your furkid in case he accidentally slips out while you’re busy stuffing candies into the buckets or welcoming guests.

Make sure that he is wearing his collar and ID tag as well so the neighbours can call you if he wanders into their home.

* CANDIES ARE A NO-NO
Candy (especially chocolate) is toxic for all pooches as consuming small amounts may cause seizures, muscle tremors and vomiting. Larger doses can be fatal.

Keep all kinds of human candy away from your dog will keep some of his favourite treats handy so he won’t feel the need to beg or steal any from you.

* SAFETY FIRST
Keep all loose decorations, electrical cords, spider webs and streamers out of reach from your pet. If he starts chewing on them, it can lead to a pretty dire outcome.

Things like streamers and spider webs can end up blocking the intestines, while chewing on electrical cords can cause him to be electrocuted.

* GETTING SPOOKED
If you're taking Fido out for a walk around the neighborhood while children are trick-or-treating, be sure to use a sturdy collar (or harness) and leash.

Be extra careful around unfamiliar children and adults, as the costumes and/or masks may frighten your pooch.

* FUN FOR US
