A quick refresher

Bathing Fido too often can dry or irritate his skin, so pet wipes are a great option for a quick, fuss-free clean between baths. Our resident pooches, Bobby and Kori, put several to the test.

Our criteria

  • How thick (or thin) are the wipes?
  • Are the wipes soft?
  • Are they sufficiently moist when you pull them out of the packet/box?
  • How does Fido’s fur feel and smell after he’s been cleaned?

1. AbsorbPlus Charcoal Hypoallergenic Pet Wipes Baby Powder Scented
from gooddogpeople.com
Price: $9.90 for 80 pieces

Features: Alcohol- and parabenfree, each sheet is pH-balanced and dermatologically tested. The wipes are hypoallergenic and suit furkids with sensitive skins and noses. The resealable packaging comes with a simple flip lid to retain moisture and freshness.

Verdict: Exuding a fairly strong, powdery smell, the fibrous wipes effortlessly picked up small particles on Bobby's short coat. However, these detoxifying wipes were black in colour, making it harder to determine whether dirt had been removed. You get more bang for your buck with this hefty pack of 80 thick wipes. Plus, it left our pup subtly scented.

Score: 3.5/5

2. Earthbath Shed Control Wipes Green Tea & Awapuhi
from reinbiotech.com
Price: $29.90 for 100 pieces

Features: These sweet-smelling wipes boast wholesome ingredients like green tea leaf extract, omega-6 fatty acids, and other natural emollients. Infused with antioxidants, the product promises to moisturise the skin and relieve shedding and dander between baths.

Verdict: Delivering a surprisingly thorough cleanse, the thick and sufficiently moist wipes contain Hawaiian awapuhi extract, which help condition and cleanse Fido’s coat and skin. The soap-free formula worked wonders on Bobby’s short fur, leaving it soft and shiny. Great for daily use and cleaning of the paws, snout and body.

Score: 4.5/5
